12/11/23 - Front Siding

One of the themes of our work on this house has been, “nothin’s easy.” As we have been working our way through the inside, and building our way around the outside, there have been surprises at every point. And not usually happy surprises, more like “why is this house still standing” surprises. The front siding was no exception. In order to put up new siding I needed to replace the skirting, much of which was set into the dirt which meant it was rotting. Once the skirting was removed we found that many of the piers were also rotting, and the ones that had been replaced were more like Jenga, with cobbled together bricks and boards. Replacing those, and adding a few more, makes the house secure in ways we didn’t know we needed. But now that it is done, we are back on solid footing. (see what I did there?)

And as the Fall has progressed the goats have been with us, in all this, and you can see from this video from October they have really cleared a lot of the hillside.
