12/28/22 - “Christmas Storm 2022”

The travel conditions leading up to Christmas were challenging across the country. In the Pacific Northwest we had freezing rain, high winds and mountain snow. We traveled to our family celebrations as we hoped we would, and handled the challenges. However, our final return home was rough. Weather forecasters called it the “Christmas Storm of 2022”!!! That is dramatic, but on the Oregon coast we did receive more than 4 inches of rain in just over a day. That was the climax of a larger weather event that lasted over a week.

The day after we got home I went to the beach and took some video of the “King Tide” which happens during the winter lunar cycle, and is often combined with winter storms. This is what it looked like. (I would turn your volume down because the wind is loud)

Another view is that of “storm watchers” who come to the coast to witness that raw power of the ocean on display. Rare is the view that has breaking waves all the way out to the rock, and beyond.

Along with the high winds, waves and tide was a large amount of rainfall, as I said. Which means we woke to find our farm house in the valley had been transformed into lakefront property. Glad for our hillside now.

The goats don’t like the rain much, but during dry patches they get some work done.
