8/3/23 - Crawl Space Repair

After the kitchen demo, and before we can start building back, we need to address the crawl space and the piers that hold up the house. Some of them resemble a game of “Jenga,” and in a couple places they are completely rotted or missing entirely. Planning the work was good, and it really only took one afternoon to jack up that end of the house, level it and replace the posts. It sounds really massive, and it is nerve-wracking, but went very smoothly.

You might notice the debris in the crawl space from the first video. I decided to just scrape it clean and start over while I was in there. We will lay a new vapor barrier when we insulate, but removing all the old “stuff” and cleaning it up makes a huge difference, and the house is far more solid and secure.

The goats continue to do their work. And while we have grown attached to them it might be time for them to have some larger pasture. We will see how things go the rest of the summer.
