5/1/22 - We get Goats
From the very beginning of planning this adventure we have wanted to get goats. They will be useful and helpful for clearing the hillside behind the house so we can find ways to make better use of the land than blackberry briar. And down the road we may be able to rent them out to clear land for new developments. So outside work has been focused on getting things ready for goats. See previous post. Karin did her research and found a goat farm in Vancouver, WA. that had goats she wanted. The farmers, a woman and her husband, were very helpful and generous with advice and explanation. We went to the farm, picked out 3 male goats to start our herd and brought them home.
They are fun to watch, and we just need to learn how to get along. Figure out how to bottle-feed them since they are very young, understanding how to move them, what they shouldn’t eat as young goats, and we need a fence if we don’t want them to eat the rose bushes… again.
You have to admit, they are really cute!
We are happy to begin this part of our new adventure.
