4/6/22 - The Goat Pen

Moving here requires trying new things, hence the term reinventing. As we have been making this transition we have been inspired by the idea of having goats. Goats that can help clear the vines and blackberries off our land, but also a possible business venture in renting out the goats to clear land for others. The slope of the property may be a challenge, so we made a plan to carve out a flat space for a goat pen.

Here is what it looked like to start.

We worked as often as the rain would allow to excavate by hand, relocating dirt to the hillside, the back driveway and the front of the pen. It was hard work, and there were lots of days we couldn’t get at it, but after a while it looked like this.

As we have been cutting back foliage we have found many “treasures,” some of which we are repurposing. We found a garage door that I will use as roof for a goat shelter, and treated lumber and metal posts that I will use for the enclosure.

It took us until 4/27, but finally it looks like this.

Not quite done, needs some finishing touches, but goats will come soon.
